Community Foundation Acts Swiftly to Address Hunger Relief

Grants to help with struggles related to Federal-government shutdown and state-budget impasse

Gettysburg, PA — Oct. 6, 2025 —In light of the federal-government shutdown and the state-budget impasse the Adams County Community Foundation is acting quickly to help nonprofits who provide food assistance across all of Adams County—to deliver food where it’s needed when it’s needed.

“Similar to our covid-19 response that provided emergency funding in the initial days of the shutdown, we’re responding quickly now to help families, children and seniors,” said Ralph Serpe, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “We have no idea how long federal and state funding will be held up, but we do know our local nonprofits, churches and volunteer food-assistance groups need the dollars now to help people.”

Adams County Community Foundation grants to food-assistance organizations include:

  • SCCAP, Gettysburg Food Pantry, $30,000
  • New Hope Ministries, Mobile Food Pantry – Abbottstown, East Berlin, Littlestown, New Oxford, Bendersville, Gardners, York Springs, $30,000
  • Ruth’s Harvest – Gettysburg, Food distribution for Gettysburg students, $7,500
