Community Foundation Awards $180,000 to Local Nonprofits

(Gettysburg, PA: 05/15/2025) – The Adams County Community Foundation has announced over $180,000 in grants to local nonprofits through its Adams County Grants program. Adams County Grants are made possible by donors who contribute to The Fund for Adams County, the Community Foundation’s growing, permanent endowment addressing the needs of Adams County today and in the future.

Community Foundation CEO Ralph Serpe said, “These donors share a deep commitment to Adams County, and we pledge to their gifts to The Fund for Adams County to strengthen the community and respond to current local need in real time.”

Adams County Farmers Market $25,000 to strengthen the Adams County Farmer Market’s staffing capacity and food program through a full-time Food Programs Coordinator position, an employer-based health insurance program for staff, and increased marketing.

Adams County Habitat for Humanity – $10,000 for a revitalization of two abandoned homes into new single-family homes for eligible applicants.

Adams County Library System $20,000 to enable the Adams County Library System to fund a contractor position that will support their capital campaign to modernize and enhance library services in Gettysburg.

Gettysburg College$20,000 to support transporting students from a wide range of Adams County school districts to and from Gettysburg College’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers’ afterschool program.

Hanover Area YWCA – Gettysburg$25,000, in partnership with the Margaret Trew Cline Youth and Families Fund, for the renovations, equipment, and staff training needed to establish a new Youth Center at the YMCA Hanover at Gettysburg.

Hanover Adams Rehabilitation and Training (H.A.R.T.)$25,000 to improve the cafeteria and breakroom so that clients have a comfortable, interactive setting when they come for vocational rehabilitation, training, and other work experiences.

South Central Community Action Programs (SCCAP)$25,000 to help complete construction of four affordable rental apartments. Targeted to low wage earners who work in Gettysburg, the apartments will meet the criteria for Housing Choice Vouchers. (grant awarded through The Forward Fund)

South Central Community Action Programs (SCCAP)$25,000 to help meet the expanding need of SCCAP’s Adams County Food Pantries and the Gleaning Project. (grant awarded through The Forward Fund)

United Way of Adams County$9,000 for the annual Bag the Bounty food drive which directly supports 19 food programs, pantries, and soup kitchens across Adams County.

Adams County Grants are supported by donors who have created their own charitable funds to be used by the Community Foundation to address the current and evolving needs of Adams County.
