(Gettysburg, PA: 4/29/2026) – The Adams County Community Foundation today announced $286,000 in new scholarship awards to students across Adams County and south-central Pennsylvania. With this year’s awards, the Community Foundation has now distributed more than $2 million in scholarships since its founding. Individual awards range from $500 to $30,000 and support students pursuing higher education and career training.
“Our Scholarship Committee, led by board member Nate Mares, reviewed hundreds of applications and selected an extraordinary group of students with extraordinary potential,” said Community Foundation President and CEO Ralph Serpe. “But we’re not just awarding scholarships, we’re working to change the system. By leading efforts to eliminate scholarship displacement, we’re making sure every dollar awarded helps close the gap between what a student has and what they need to pay for school.
Derek Reed, a Littlestown native and Community Foundation scholarship recipient, was the featured speaker at the event. A 2022 graduate of Littlestown High School, Reed used his scholarships to earn an associate’s degree from HACC in 2024.
Since then, he has performed across the country in a wide range of community settings and was also a 2025 contestant on American Idol. The Community Foundation is proud to celebrate his accomplishments and welcome him back as part of this year’s scholarship breakfast.
