Community Foundation Strengthens Local Nonprofits with $100,000 in New Grants

(Gettysburg, PA: 12/26/2023 — The Adams County Community Foundation has announced $100,000 in grants to local nonprofits through its Adams County Grants program, adding to the $120,000 awarded earlier this year.

These grants focus on helping the recipient nonprofits become more effective and build on earlier grants to these organizations. The Community Foundation is committed to supporting key nonprofits as they grow and expand their ability to serve residents in need.

Adams County Grants are made possible by donors who contribute to The Fund for Adams County, the Community Foundation’s growing, permanent endowment used to address the needs of the community today and prepare for the needs of tomorrow. Community Foundation CEO Ralph M. Serpe said, “These donors, whether they gave during their lifetime or through a bequest, all care deeply about Adams County and understand the role of this Fund and the Community Foundation’s duty to use their gifts to address the changing needs of this community.”

Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center, $25,000
With support from the Community Foundation, ACCAC has worked to prevent child abuse by spreading information and raising awareness across the community. This grant supports an expansion of those efforts, particularly by increasing outreach to students and reaching adults in new ways.

Adams Rescue Mission, $25,000
Adams Rescue Mission plans to purchase an apartment building to alleviate the shortage of apartments that accept housing vouchers. This grant enables ARM to build a fundraising program focused on purchasing the building and grow an endowment to support ongoing maintenance.

Manos Unidas, $22,000
With this grant, Manos Unidas will add staff to build financial support of their mission to help members of Adams County’s growing Hispanic community achieve self-sufficiency.

Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding Program, Inc., $25,000
Shining Stars recently purchased a farm that will enable them to offer therapeutic riding for twice the current number, eliminating the waiting list. This grant allows handicap accessibility renovations to get underway and open the new facility as soon as possible.

Giving Spree Endowment Prize Pool: $3,000
The Endowment Prize Pool will reward the nonprofits that see the biggest percentage increase in their endowments through this year’s Giving Spree.

Adams County Grants are fueled by numerous donors who have created their own charitable funds to be used by the Community Foundation to address the current and evolving needs of Adams County. These supporters include Thomas E. & Florence B. Metz, Jack & Bobbie Phillips, John S. & Kimberly L. Phillips, Eric & Suzanne Flynn, Thomas P. & Roberta C. Henninger, Fred & Rita Diehl, Donald H. & Mildred C. Hershey, M.C. Jones, Sharon Trew Cline Magraw, Charles Ritter, James D. & Eleanor B.
