Community Foundation Awards $90,000 In Adams County Grants

(Gettysburg, PA: 04/15/2022)  — With gratitude to its generous donors, the Adams County Community Foundation has announced $90,000 in grants through its Adams County Grants program to improve conditions for children suffering abuse, people in recovery from substance abuse, low-income homeowners, and all who choose to walk or bike in the borough of Gettysburg.

Adams County Grants are made possible by individuals, families, and businesses who have contributed to The Fund for Adams County, the Community Foundation’s growing, permanent endowment used to address the needs of the community today and prepare for the needs of tomorrow.

Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center – $25,000

Reflecting a trend seen elsewhere during the pandemic, incidences of child abuse in Adams County have risen sharply in recent years. This grant supports a new, full-time Community Outreach and Education Coordinator who will launch a broad public information campaign to help adults learn how to recognize and react appropriately to suspected child abuse.

Adams Rescue Mission – $25,000

Adams Rescue Mission is building an endowment to ensure a dependable revenue stream to sustain their services to the homeless and others recovering from addictions and trauma. This grant is for an experienced endowment campaign consultant to guide ARM in achieving their goal.

Servants, Inc. – $25,000

Improving conditions for health and safety helps people maintain independence in their own homes. Servants, Inc. engages churches, businesses, and individual volunteers to provide home maintenance and repairs for low-income, usually elderly and/or disabled homeowners. This grant supports a Project Manager to manage expansion of this  home repair program into Adams County from its base of operations in Red Lion.

Healthy Adams Bicycle/Pedestrian, Inc. – $15,000

This is a challenge grant that will leverage additional state and local support to build a section of the downtown Gettysburg Inner Loop Trail from Buford Avenue to North Franklin Street. Since 2005 HABPI has worked with local and state government as well as businesses and residents to acquire, develop and maintain trails for bicycling and pedestrian use, providing healthy, green options for commuting and recreational use.

Adams County Grants are fueled by numerous donors who have created their own charitable funds to be used by the Community Foundation to address the current and evolving needs of Adams County. These generous supporters include Thomas E. & Florence B. Metz, Jack & Bobbie Phillips, John S. & Kimberly L. Phillips, Eric & Suzanne Flynn, Thomas P. & Roberta C. Henninger, Fred & Rita Diehl, Donald H. & Mildred C. Hershey, M.C. Jones, Sharon Trew Cline Magraw, Charles Ritter Family, James D. & Eleanor B. Sheen, George & Roberta Wood, and the legacy of founding father Ben Franklin.
